Meet Sir Woolsworth the Sheep – The black sheep who blazes his own trail, showing that courage is found in choosing your own path.
The Punja dhurries of Mirzapur are woven on traditional horizontal looms using the distinctive 'Punja' tool that gives the craft its name. These dhurries are traditionally known for their flat weave, durability and bold geometric patterns. Hence the snugglewalas with their more fluid designs provide a distinct innovation in the interpretations of these traditional dhurries.
These beautiful pieces even shine as a wall art/tapestry.
Please note the actual colours may vary a bit from the one in the picture.
THE CRAFT
Flat-Weave Wonders
Dhurries are flat-woven rugs, lighter and more versatile than carpets. They can be rolled, carried, and spread anywhere.
Cotton & Wool Blend
Traditionally, dhurries are made with cotton for the warp and wool for the weft.
Reversible Charm
A true dhurrie can be used on both sides—doubling its life and beauty.
Mirzapur’s Fame
The Uttar Pradesh town of Mirzapur has been a hub of dhurrie weaving for centuries.
Global Spread
These dhurries have been exported worldwide since the colonial era, admired for their craftsmanship.
