Meet Pawston the Tiger – A thoughtful tiger , he is someone who prefers pausing for Masala chai over pouncing, a seeker of quiet balance as he paints the bumblebees around him.

ABOUT THE CRAFT

Older Than History Ceramics in India date back to the Indus Valley Civilization (over 5,000 years ago), where people made terracotta pots, toys, and figurines.

The Word Itself “Ceramic” comes from the Greek keramos meaning pottery, but in India it has always been simply mitti—earth.

Colors from Fire Ceramic colors emerge from minerals and glazes that change when fired—copper gives green, cobalt gives blue, and iron gives brown.

Potter’s Wheel Legacy The potter’s wheel, or chak, has been an enduring symbol of India’s village economy for thousands of years.

Modern Hub in Karnataka Kolar, better known for its historic gold fields, has emerged in recent decades as a center for contemporary ceramic production.

THE COLLABORATION -

Headstreams is an NGO that builds work readiness and resilience among youth from vulnerable contexts through art, craft and design education. Its focus is on young women who have been trafficked, abused, neglected, abandoned, orphaned or forced out of school due to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). These women face heightened risks of exploitation, unemployment and poverty.

Headstreams offers a work-integrated, trauma-informed program that prepares them for education, employment or entrepreneurship. The nine-month training includes craft and design foundations, ceramic design specialisation, entrepreneurship and essential literacies such as digital, financial and life skills.
