NIBBLES NAMDA LUXURY TOTE

Miss Mr. Nibbles the Yoga-loving Parrot – Unlike most parrots who chatter away, he speaks only when spoken to, nibbling chillies, grains, or wisdom while keeping watch.

Rooted in the traditional Namda felt craft of Kashmir, these bags bring together one of the region’s most beautiful textile techniques with a contemporary design language. Namda is created by felting wool through pressure, moisture and skilled handwork, forming a dense, soft and durable surface without weaving.

For this collection, we have worked with both Nuno felting and needle felting. Nuno felting is a textile-making technique that combines fine wool fibres with a thin woven fabric such as silk. Through wet felting, the wool fibres migrate through the fabric and interlock, creating a strong, textured textile with a subtle luxurious feel. Needle felting uses fine barbed needles to bind wool fibres together, helping build shape, detail and raised surface textures by hand.

Once the felting is complete, delicate Crewel embroidery is added by hand on the surface, bringing in another celebrated craft tradition of Kashmir. Each bag is finished with a satin lining on the inside, making it as refined within as it is expressive outside.

Taking nearly 7 to 8 days to make, every piece is a slow, laborious act of craft. This is the first time this technique has been used to create luxury bags in this way, with a distinct design for both the front and back sides of the bag, making each one truly one of a kind, with its own texture, character and quiet uniqueness.

Care Instructions

Handle with care. Spot clean gently with a soft, dry cloth. You may also use a suitable fabric or lint roller designed for delicate textiles. Do not soak, machine wash, wring or tumble dry. Air dry naturally if needed, and store in a clean, dry place.

The Collaboration

Farrooq Ahmed Khan/ Farooq Saab is a master felt-maker from Safakadal, Kashmir who has been practicing the traditional wool craft for nearly 35 years. Learning the craft from a very young age from his father and uncles, he has carried forward this family legacy with dedication and expertise. Roosted in Kashmir's rich craft heritage, his life-long engagement with felt-making reflcts both tradition and craftsmanship passed down through generations.
