Neckles the Giraffe – The family’s fashion icon, she is tall and poised, carrying quiet confidence with effortless elegance.
When the vibrant wood-turning craft of Channapatna meets the delicate artistry of Kashmiri Naqqashi, something magical happens. No two pieces are ever the same, each one carrying the signature of the artisan’s hand. Rare, collectible and deeply expressive, these creations feel as though the two crafts were always meant to find each other.
ABOUT THE CRAFT ~
The Art of Naqqashi
This involves hand-painting intricate designs on papier-mâché or metal, often followed by enamel finishing.
Brushes of Reeds
Artisans traditionally make their brushes from reed twigs and cat hair for delicate strokes.
Stories in Miniature
Designs often include hunting scenes, gardens, birds and Mughal-inspired floral vines.
Global Collectors’ Craft
Kashmiri enamel and Naqqashi items are prized worldwide, found in museums and royal collections.
Motifs of Paradise
Since most of the motifs are derived from the local landscapes, popular designs and motifs include the ‘Hazara’ or design of a thousand flowers, featuring roses, hyacinth, irises, etc; ‘Chinar’ (leaves or drawings of the chinar tree); ‘Sarav’ (cypress shrub); ‘Zambuk’ (a type of grass); “Gul-e-wilayat’, or the flowers of foreign lands.
