This product is a result of the ME to WE project, an initiative by A Hundred Hands, an NGO that encourages craftspeople across crafts, media and geographies to collaborate on design and innovation. The popular tigers and goats game is thus a fusion of two crafts, the lightweight, wooden pawns handcrafted by our artisans from channapatna and the beautiful mats, custom-embroidered by Porgai, a producer group of Lambadi women from Sitlingi, Tamil Nadu. This games comes with a lovely custom-made handblock-printed potli (a cloth bag), the embrodiered mat, 19 pawns and an instruction leaflet.
The player controlling the tigers places their three counters on the three tigers spaces at the top of the triangle. One at the apex and 2 in the inner triangle closest to the apex. The player controlling the goats then places one of their goat counters on a free space on the board (where the lines intersect). After one goat is on the board, the tigers can move. The players take turns, the goat player placing one counter on the board at a time and the tiger player moving their counters. The goats cannot move until all 15 of them are on the board. The tigers must attempt to ‘kill’ the goats by jumping over them into a free space, the goat is then taken off the board. If they kill all 15 goats they win*. The goats must try to surround the tigers so they cannot move. If they can do this, the goats have won.
