What is this activity ?
Lacing is a classic fine motor activity for preschoolers that requires them to manipulate a thread through a hole, take it out and repeat. In this case the string needs to pulled through one end of the fish , taken out at the other end and then right through another fish.
What are the benefits of this game?
It builds fine motor skills and spatial awareness. It also strengthens dexterity, hand-eye coordination and the pincer grasp. Pincer grasp requires using the index finger and thumb to grasp the string and is considered an essential fine motor skill. It improves concentration and builds patience and perseverance. In addition, lacing helps children practice the precursor skills for tying their shoe and sewing. Since the activity involves using both the hands, it also develops bilateral coordination. You can also teach your toddler to count, add and subtract with the fishes here while lacing.
